Some ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½°²×¿Æƽâ°æ Lafayette students, faculty and staff will read aloud short passages from banned books or challenged books on Wednesday, Oct. 3, in observance of the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week.
The Banned Books Read-Out celebrates the freedom to read books, and the right to access them, without censorship. It will begin at 2 p.m. in front of Edith Garland Dupré Library on the university's campus. In case of inclement weather, the Read-Out will take place on the first floor of Dupré Library near Jazzman's Café.
Members of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½°²×¿Æƽâ°æ Lafayette community are invited to pick a short passage from a banned or challenged book and read it at the event, according to Betsy Miguez, Dupré Library Publicity Committee chair.
Participants may bring their own banned reading material, or they may select an excerpt from books provided for the event.
